In each of the children’s movies we can recall, Disney and Hollywood have given us wonderful endings; however, many of them contain awful stories in their original book versions, with crude messages about life. In this top 3, we include some of these tales that, in their original form, would have given millions of children nightmares, but have since been transformed into beloved films by Hollywood. Surely, you’ll see your favourite characters in a new light from now on!
3). Mulan (1998)
It’s a film based on the Chinese mythology of Hua Mulan, a legendary female warrior from China’s Southern and Northern Dynasties (420–589) who was first recounted in a ballad called the Ballad of Mulan.
Mulan wins the war in Disney’s version and goes home with the pride of his entire family. However, in the original tale, China loses the war, and Mulan discovers that her mother has remarried when she returns home. Finally, she commits suicide in order to be with her father.
The movie is based on the Italian children’s novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi. In the original version, Pinocchio is a child that behaves badly. Even Jiminy Cricket advises Pinocchio to stop doing mischief, and he crushes the cricket with a hammer. But one day Pinocchio hurts a cat, and the animals takes revenge by hanging the Pinocchio in a tree until he dies.
In a second version, Collodi changed the story including the celebrated ending in which Pinocchio becomes a child. That is the version presented by Disney.
1). Little Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf (1934)
The true storey is based on a European folktale about a small girl and a ferocious wolf. It’s based on various European folk tales, but Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm wrote the most well-known versions.
Charles Perrault’s version (1967) is the earliest known printed version. This is as straightforward as it is sad. Little Red Riding Hood gets lost and is devoured by the wolf when the wolf gives her false signals. End.
The brothers Grimm rewrote the storey in 1812, making it more innocent and finishing with a happy conclusion — the version we know today. Little Red Riding Hood screams before the wolf consumes her, and a woodcutter comes to her rescue. The wolf is then killed and his stomach is opened.
